Somewhere over the Sea (2023)
Upon receiving the news of our teacher’s surgery and coma, as I was far away in a foreign land, I could only reminisce with an old friend about his stories. On the day he passed away, I walked to the seafront of Brighton, where distant fireworks illuminated the sky. In the name of missing him, I took these photographs to dedicate to him, as a substitute for the conversations we can no longer have. As soon as I burned the photographs and a letter, which is a way we communicate with the people who passed away, I saw the most beautiful moon in my entire life.
I have always remembered his words; however, my rebellious nature prevents me from reaching where he expected me to be. But I will continue living happily in my own way, and I hope he finds happiness wherever he is now.
